COURSE “THE TRAIL OF THE SEA: Identification of seashells and molluscs Delta del Ebro”

Content: The sea creeps up the banks of the beaches large amount of debris, traces of organisms that reveal the great diversity of our sea hides. The course will give the keys to identify the most common shells of mollusks and crustaceans that can be found easily on the beaches (and the market) as well as the different strategies that serve these curious animals to conquer the most diverse habitats.

Daily

9:30 Meeting point in the classrooms of the Ebro Delta

9: 30-11: 00 Theoretical session: Introduction to the shellfish from the Ebro Delta.

11: 00-14: 00 Output field. We make a stroll along the beach to observe and collect shells and other marine debris later identify.

Latest

15: 00-17: 00 theoretical and practical session. Main groups of mollusks and crustaceans, tips for identifying shells, identification guides.

17: 00-19: 00 Visit the Museum of the Sea Sant Carles de la Rapita (malacological collection)

teachers

Castejon Diego has a degree in Biology from the University of Murcia. He has done an MBA Biodiversity in Mediterranean Environments i currently conducting a PhD at the Institute of Food and Agricultural Research and Technology (IRTA) on the cultivation of shellfish.

Kruno Bonacic is born in Croatia where he graduated in Aquaculture. He has worked several years in fish farming companies and is currently a PhD at the IRTA. It is a big fan of diving and malacología, and currently has an extensive collection of shells, which continues to expand with each walk on the beach.
