Birdwatch Asturias

Birdwatch Asturias is a company dedicated to wildlife and nature observation in the east of Asturias, specialising in birdwatching. We run an annual introductory course on ornithology, as well as environmental education workshops in schools in the centre and east of Asturias.

We usually offer the following activities in the Picos de Europa National Park:

The Birds of the Covadonga Lakes, in which we enjoy watching the birds in the area, finding out about the lives of local farmers, walking around the lakes, and learning about their origins and formation from glaciers.

Birds from a canoe: a birdwatching trip down the river Sella, away from the hustle and bustle of the large number of canoes that usually come with a trip down this well-known river. A trip that we manage to do alone, enjoying the birds, their calls, and the sound of the water.

We also offer birdwatching activities in other protected areas of Asturias, such as the Ponga Natural Park and Villaviciosa Estuary.

Company’s commitment to conservation of biodiversity and local development

Our commitment to nature is clear in every aspect of our lives. We cannot do an activity like this without taking care of the environment we live and work in:

  • We are active partners of SEO-Birdlife, with whom we collaborate in carrying out bird censuses and biodiversity improvement projects.
  • We are also members of the Oak Project Association, participating in tree planting to revitalize burnt areas.
  • We calculate and offset our carbon footprint, making donations to various conservation projects.
  • We are aware of the issues with overcrowding in some areas of the park and to avoid contributing more to it, we have adapted our birdwatching trip down the River Sella so it is away from the crowds and noise.
  • As part of our effort to raise awareness about the environment, we offer free environmental education workshops to schools, so that children can also become involved in preserving nature.
